If you’re not familiar with lifestreaming, you can jump over to Posterous and check it out. It’s a technology that some people are using to replace their personal blog. How does it replace a blog? They’re able to dump text in (like you can with a blog), but also just let people see pictures or videos taken from their phone, etc. It’s a place for people to put pretty much whatever they want out there for you to see.
My first thought? Picture yourself walking through church, school, your office, the mall, etc. When someone you know (either well or not much at all) passes you, what’s the typical response? For me it usually goes something like this……ME: Hey! THEM: Hey, how are you doing? ME: Fine…..you? THEM: Alright.
And that’s about the end of it. The discussion might start back up in a week, but it will probably sound the same. Why does lifestreaming not jive with me? Because it’s taking that kind of a discussion and extending it online. If God is working in either of our lives, and we have something to share, we had better be willing to open up and get a little deeper with our discussion. The person that just says “hey” to you surely isn’t too concerned, and most definitely won’t be there when you hit bottom or are in a time of need. Honestly, I need fewer of those friends in my life. I’d replace fifty of those with two new friends that might just take 10 minutes out of their day to chat.
That’s what I pray blogging does for you as much as it does for me. Lets you connect with someone that might benefit from what you have to say. Or lets you speak into a discussion by commenting or sharing your thoughts or what you’ve been through / are going through. I dig Twitter / Facebook……places that are there just to spew out the things that aren’t meant to be as deep. But replacing depth (your story) with bits and pieces of shallow info is much different. I’m sure a few of you have thought about the importance of blogging, or maybe even switching to the lifestreaming model? Any thoughts?
PRAYING for my sister-in-law, Angie, as she competes in the finals of a singing contest here in Ohio on Saturday. May God speak through her voice, and encourage her!!! PRAISING God for nudging us to get deeper with people, and show them we do really care.
