The lent hits the fan

I’d have to travel far to be tempted in the desert as Jesus was, but I have a feeling these 40 days (Lent) might make things interesting. After reading how dedicated Christ was in making it to the cross, I do have to question how I might focus more clearly on the day He died for me – and those that led up to it.

I’ve been finding out in new ways the past few weeks more of what it means to be tempted by the world when you put your game face on for the Lord. It’s been a while since I’ve stepped it up like this, and you know it’s legit when you start getting hit harder with decisions and difficult choices. You would know, right?

So I’m ditching something that I look forward to every day. I feel decent drinking a $1 energy drink in the evenings or a diet pop to get me “through the day”. So I’m taking on a “water only pledge” for these 40 days. Not to lose weight, although heck……maybe I’ll stick with water when this passes? But to narrow the focus onto the cross.

Sometimes it’s fun when I see Apple commercials on TV – reminds me of a true passion of mine. My first water tomorrow morning will remind me of my greatest passion……the price of the cross. Gabe Taviano was a price tag on the cross 2,000 years ago, and he wasn’t on clearance. I’m sure I can be dedicated enough knowing that? Read more about Lent here.

  1. I am not saying this to say…what ever…but, when you were in 3rd grade….I gave up pop for lent…with Trenkamp at Marimor.  Full circle…to see you desiring a yet deeper walk with the LORD….how neat is GOD ?

  2. Growing up in a church that didn’t really observe lent, I used to think it was silly when people did.  Especially people who didn’t “live the separated life” that I did most of the time.  It always seemed like empty religion to me.  I think it still is for some, but I do see the significance of remidning yourself of the cross for those who have a genuine relationship with Jesus.

Luke 9:23 Then He said to them all, “If anyone wants to come with Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me.

  3. I went to water back in December and can testify to the fact that after about 3 weeks, you really don’t want anything else.  I had read that drinking water increases your energy level…I was a true skeptic but no longer.  I have had more energy overall and am not experiencing the mid-afternoon lull anymore.
