Ava and the sooks

Marla just got back from taking the girls on a walk in the park. Ava (our 2 year old) told me that she saw FITEEN SOOKS! I had to be as excited as she was, but I had no clue what she was talking about! I had to do a cross-reference into the dictionary for two year olds to find out that sooks is the new lingo for squirrels.

I went through Awana at our church while growing up, but never thought I would be helping now as an adult? Last night was my first night helping the 3rd and 4th grade boys learn verses and do the activities the leader had planned for us. I was sitting there watching a few of the young guys as they were trying to write memory verses in their book. I can’t remember what it was like to take 2 minutes to write a once sentence verse. Isn’t it amazing that we forget the stages of writing a k that consisted of drawing three lines? Now it’s not hard to just sit down and type a blog like this one 2 or 3 minutes. I realized that kids need to feel special these days……..our world has a way of expecting them to already know how to type by that age. Technology often speeds things up a little too quickly!

  1. Man, I still have trouble with my k’s.

Plans for fall are pretty busy.  I’m starting school next week…in combination with work and being newly married…should be interesting.  How about you?

  2. I hated Penmanship class!! I still shudder when I think of Mrs. Sandy telling me in 1st grade how poor my handwriting was, and I was trying so hard! =)
