We will not coexist

You’ve seen the bumper sticker below on cars everywhere, right? A mix of science, Islam, Buddhism, Christianity and Judaism – all blended together in one happy rectangle. The problem? It’s a lie. People really believe that is possible? I guess so. They seem to be the same kind of people who hang out in the tree-hugging, war-bashing, extreme liberal camps (as far as I can tell). Just jump over and check out the rest of the stickers on Peacermonger.org, and I’m sure it will be obvious.

So why write about this? Because when I read the first commandment in Exodus 20:3, the God I follow makes it clear that we can attempt to get along for the moment – but one day this bumper sticker will prove to be a myth. Obviously I’m not suggesting that war is a tremendous thing, or that we should be angry about so much division. This is a free nation, but you have to call a spade a spade. Just seems to me that one can’t be free if he joins forces with everyone? Does this confuse you as much as me?

  1. I agree with you on this that this sticker is a huge myth and will never work. God said not to have any other “gods” before Him and He has punished His people in the past for accepting and worshiping other gods. Christianity is diabolically opposed to all other Religions. First, God forbids it, second, He sent the only person qualified to save us from our sins (Jesus) and put it plainly, there is no one else qualified, He (Jesus) came, died and resurrected and went back and left His empty tomb and will return with resurrection power. The sticker just shows us where the world and the “Church” is heading, basically into apostasy a one world government and a one world Church and this one world church is straight from the pit of hell,! they will come in peace, but at the end of it is destruction, unfortunately..some Churches are falling for the bait. I believe that at a certain level Christianity should coexist in peace with other religions, but not to co inhabit, the sticker is filled with pagan symbols, that dates back to devil worship, sun and moon worship etc. How can we mix darkness with light? (Jesus is the Light)

  2. Right on, Gabe… Coexist is just a pseudonym from the “tolerance” people, who encourage tolerance for everything that is not Christ. Just look at the organizations listed across the bottom of the sticker…

We are in a study on the Ten Commandments (can they tolerate that?) and the mandate of God is clear: No other gods, no idols (period). I know that the gospel is foolishness to those that are perishing, but it is not foolishness to me, it is Life!

Does that mean I do not coexist with those other groups? It means, to me, that I do not compromise my Saviour to coexist with them. Sadly, I am afraid that is, at best, the co-existence that is demanded by the groups listed on the bumper sticker.

I pray for the strength of Christ in standing for Him in all things…

    – all of you are “on it”…..it is creeping in from all sides….even into appeasing inside the church…it is
speaking 1/2 truth, it is only saying the good…without
the full gospel…this is the door that satan is using from
    the very top down.

  4. I actually have this bumper sticker in my room because it makes me think over and over.
I see what you are saying and the challenge that it brings.
It promotes universalism or pluralism and in effect teaches that all ways are accepted to Jesus. Obviously that is wrong.

I like the sticker because it calls for peace, but at its core it is wrong, you are correct.

  5. The fundamental assumption of these stickers (and this relativistic mentality) is this: religion is merely fictional and should not be considered truth. In fact the equation basically looks like this:
    false = false
Since all of them are presented as equally (in)valid by virtue of them all being false, you shouldn’t attempt to speak of truth (which you would never speak in love) and your faith at the same time. Illogical at best, but their worldview demands it.

  6. I checked out the site… I agree it obvious, I do like the “Where’s my bailout” sticker though in a sarcastic kind of way.

The other one that caught my eye was the “Practice what He preached”

Um, ok, John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
    Just saying.

  7. Just Me

I will start by saying that I am a Christian, in that I believe in Christ, his works, and his miracles. I want to be totally clear on that. Also, I am SO not a tree hugger, or a PETA member, or an aging (or not so aging 🙂 ) hippie, or liberal…. I am about as far from those things as one can get.

That being said, let’s use a bit of logic here.

One of the Ten Commandments is that we should honor our fathers and mothers. I don’t know about the rest of the people out there, but I was give my religious background and training by MY parents, who were instructed by their parents, and so on, since time immemorial. Parents. The people I have been charged by the Word of God to honor.

So if I were Jewish, because it was what my parents taught (and so on and so on), am I really going to go to hell for honoring their belief system? Will I end up in hell because I have espoused my parents’ religion?

Somehow I don’t think so. That would be a double standard. God doesn’t tell me that I should honor my father and mother unless I find something I think would be better.

And on another thought, will a God of love and forgiveness really allow billions people who are intrinsically good to spend eternity in hellfire over slight differences in ideology? (And yes, I have spent significant time in the study of the religions of the world, so I know that there are many that really are the same, or close to it, with different names for their deities.)

    I don’t see that either.

    I’m just saying….

  8. Response to the “anonymous Just Me”:

Thanks for your comment! Here are a few verses from the Bible that make it a bit obvious what God’s thoughts are on getting into heaven. It really doesn’t matter whether your religion is passed from generation to generation. Your grandparents aren’t going to be holding your hand when you’re trying to get into heaven. I’m well aware of the ideas of religions (Jewish, etc.), and they don’t believe Christ is the only way.

    1 John 2:23, John 14:6, John 3:16-18, Acts 4:12, 1 John 5:11.

  9. Response to the “anonymous Just Me”:

Gabe gave all the right scripture verses to clarify the fact that Jesus is the only way. Just to clarify some other points you mentioned. Honoring your parents does not mean you have to honor their religion, if you were born in a family that worships the devil, would you honor their religion…..No…You would honor God first.

Ephesians 6:1 “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.”

Notice the scripture says “obey your parents in the Lord”. The scripture also says to obey government and the law, but if government and the law, says “do not worship Jesus” then we cannot honor that government or law.

“will a God of love and forgiveness really allow billions people who are intrinsically good to spend eternity in hellfire over slight differences in ideology?”

First thing we have to remember is that their is none that is intrinsically good!

Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”

Our loving God is not in the business of condemning people to hell, he is in the business of saving people from hell.

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. John 3:17-18

In the end God is not going to ask us about our “Religion”, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, Baptist or Catholic. He wants to know what we did with His only and precious gift…..His son Jesus.

Response to the “anonymous Just Me”:

“(And yes, I have spent significant time in the study of the religions of the world, so I know that there are many that really are the same, or close to it, with different names for their deities.)”

I won’t repeat what loswl and Gabe has said already, but just to say. You are right, most religions of the world are very, very close in what they believe and some are the same, the only one that is totally different is Christianity. Why? because it is the only one that proclaims Jesus as the Son of God and Savior of the world, and proclaims Him to be the only way to salvation, through His sacrifice on the cross and goes as far as to say that He is God! (Jesus means…God with us).

The other religions may say they believe in him as a great teacher, prophet etc. but none of them believe that He is the Messiah, the son of the living God.

  11. Very nice article Gabe!

I too am a follower of Jesus Christ and the gospel of Truth.

It is a fact that there is much propaganda all around like ‘all religions are the same’, ‘all gods and deities are

manifestations of the same god’, ‘god is greater than religion’, ‘all that matters is that you live a good life’ etc…

Now, some of the things said above like ‘being good is all that matters’ appear to be valid principles for living life,

but what people do not realize is that they are only fooling themselves by following such principles. Their understanding of good and evil
comes from the world around them, where there is nothing wrong in commiting adultery,
in getting rich even if you hurt and put down people in the process, and finally in living a life contrary to the gospel.

These are the things because of which the wrath of God is coming upon the world.

Jesus Christ is not merely a teacher or some other prophet, He IS the ONLY begotten Son of God, and the saviour of mankind.

He alone is THE way and THE Truth.

The world might say there are many ‘ways’ to obtain salvation, but scripture disagrees:

‘There is a ‘way’ that seems right to a man, but its end is death’ – Proverbs 14:12
