Chaos to thankfulness

texasoverpassI was trying to think of a way to express this post. Then I remembered driving through a few large cities in Texas this month, and seeing some pretty crazy freeways like you see in the picture. It was pretty awesome to drive up the largest of them and look down on all of the crazy traffic. When writing this post I feel like I am standing in the middle of the busiest of all of them, on the busiest and most confusing day of the year.

What is it like to be self-employed and trying to finish too many projects, working a few hours per week with our church, traveling across the country with our family for the 52 Zoos project, going to our girls’ soccer games, having a previous employer approach me about doing freelance work, trying to stay focused on the Digital Disciples ministry here in Ohio, attempting to get back on track with our podcast at GodsMac.com, consulting organizations and friends on various technologies, not exercising like I should, etc. etc. etc.

After returning from those busy freeways in Texas (and some very lonely roads in the middle of nowhere), I’m struggling to get back on track. I’m getting there. It will take time. But my soul needs to get there first. Realizing in Jeremiah 29:11 that my God is there for me. Thanks to Kaye over at EngravedEuniques.com for our family plaque that reminds me of that verse today! Continuing to be insanely thankful for having any work at all coming in, when others are searching for work. To think of the engineers that built those chaotic freeways, and the amazing control their finished product now has over our busy schedules.

I write this to remind myself that I serve a God who engineers every second of my days. He will control, provide and stretch my life how He chooses. It’s my prayer that I hand over each day to Him, and give Him thanks when the sun sets. That’s the joy of following where He leads. It sure is taxing, but I wouldn’t sell this life for anything.

PRAYING for you and the hard days that you go through. I know I’m not the only one! PRAISING God for continuing to get my attention. That shows me He loves me even more.

  1. Well, this just blew me away. God’s always using you to sharpen me, isn’t He? Makes me grin and cringe all at the same time. GREAT post.

I agree with the comment above, good job. Your “Praising” statement struck a chord with me, thankyou.

  3. Great post Gabe, I’m with you all the way!

I’m a full-time stay-at-home dad, a pastor, a husband and a blogger. Plus, I run my own web hosting business and have started writing books.

My life feels exacty like that picture but I can never work out which freeway I’m supposed to be on at any given time!

Praise God that he cares and is in control!

  4. Thanks for sharing some great thoughts. I feel the same way; are we coming or going, this way or that way….but we do know WHO is in control, and are very thankful for HIS leadership in our lives, right?
Thanks also for the sweet shout-out:)
    Blessings today and always,
    Kaye
