I wanted to take a couple minutes to try to answer two basic questions we’ve gotten about our move to Cambodia on January 3, 2015 (in just over 4 weeks). Feel free to contact me if you have other specific questions after reading this. If after reading this, you are interested in partnering with us, you may make donations and follow our family over at www.Taviano.com.
QUESTION 1 – Are you going to be earning money over there, or are you going to need financial support from friends and family?
ANSWER – We are moving to serve others, not ourselves. While we could work (me as a designer / photographer and Marla as an author / writer) from anywhere in the world and bring in money, that is not what God has called us to Cambodia for. We will need the financial support from others to follow the mission we’ve been called to, with a goal of $3,000 per month. As of today we are 9% of the way toward that goal. That might sound scary since we are only a few weeks from moving, but it’s not – after being self-employed and dealing with anxiety / depression following a massive heart attack. God works things out for the good of those who love Him, and I’ve seen Him do just that over and over and over and over.
QUESTION 2 – What will you be doing in Cambodia?
ANSWER – My vision is to specifically train, equip and partner with other creatives that God guides me to. I am not sure (yet) if that will require starting a new business / non-profit organization or what. I just know that there are lots of people in Cambodia with lots of potential. I have ALWAYS enjoyed training and empowering others even more than being creative myself. I will share more details about what that looks like in the coming weeks. Marla and the girls are excited to connect and serve with our friends at The Hard Places Community (I will do some of this as well), and to see what other opportunities God brings across our path after moving into the new culture. Much of the first year will require adapting to our new home and learning our new second language as well.
Hopefully this helps!
